Varde Sport Fishing Association Rules of fishing
Fishing rules given according to Danish law:
Payment of fishing permit and mandatory Danish fishing license is required before you start fishing.
The mandatory fishing license applies to all persons between the age of 18 and national pension.
Salmon quota in the Varde Å water system:
A maximum of one salmon may be taken home per person within the quota throughout the season.
The quota is divided into large salmon (larger than 73 cm) and small salmon (less than or equal to 73 cm)
The quota for large salmon (larger than 73 cm) is further divided into 2 halves.
One half to be released on April 16th and one half to be released on June 16th.

Handling of salmon for release must be done as gently as possible for the fish. Against this background, salmon that are released and that are to be photographed must be done in such a way that the salmon is always in contact with the water.
Every caught salmon must be registered online. Last name and place of residence of the fisherman as well as weight, length and sex of the fish, where and when the fish was caught please state.
Registration must be made at http://varde-sportsfiskerforening.dk/registrer-fangst/ by 24:00 on the day of the catch.
Only one hook on the fishing line is allowed. The hook must be a single hook, double hook or treble hook.
It is not allowed to use barbed hooks.
It is not allowed to fish with shrimp and roe as bait.
When fishing with natural bait or bait with fragrances, a single hook must be used.
Protected and undersize fish must be released, irrespective of condition.
In Primært laksevand (Salmon water A) fishing is permitted from April 16 to and including October 31.
Primary salmon water (Salmon water A) is:
– Grindsted Å, from the confluence between Grene Å and Billund Bæk and downstream to the outlet in the Wadden Sea.
– Ansager Å, from the impoundment at Krogager Dambrug and downstream to the outlet in the Wadden Sea.
– Holme Å, from Hovborgvej and downstream to the outlet in the Wadden Sea.
In Laksevand B, fishing is permitted from 1 March to 31 October.
Salmon water B is:
The other part of the Varde Å System.
Minimum sizes: (The length is measured from the tip of the mouth to the tip of the tail).
Salmon 40 cm Protected, but with quota – one salmon pr. person per year
Sea trout 40 cm
River trout 30 cm
Grayling Protected
Houting Protected
Pike 60 cm Protected 15. Marts – 30. April
Eel 45 cm
You will be fined if you violate or attempt to violate the above rules.
Fishing rules given by Varde Sportsfiskerforening:
The fishing season is from April 16th through October 31st.
Payment of fishing permit and mandatory Danish fishing license is required before you start fishing.
Only one fishing rod per person is allowed.
The daily limit per day is three salmonids (salmon, sea trout and river trout) per person with a sub-limit of one salmon per year.
All caught fish must be registered on the same day, regardless of whether the catch is taken or the fish are put into the water, and the report must be made no later than 24.00 on the same day.

In the event that the fishing water becomes warmer than 18 degrees, fishing must stop.
Rules given by Varde Sportsfiskerforening:
Anglers have the right to move along the river only and should keep off corn and high grass.
ALWAYS respect the property of river bank owners.
Vehicles only permitted on marked roads and parking spaces.
Putting up tents is not permitted.
Littering of fishing hooks, paper, bottles, fishing line, etc. is prohibited.
Do not touch fyke nets.
Dogs are not allowed.
Recommendations given by Varde Sportsfiskerforening:
It is recommended. Unhook fish in the water, then release.
It is recommended. Avoid – if possible – taking fish that will be released from the water.
It is recommended to bring the fishing net of suitable size with a fine-meshed knot-free bag.
It is recommended. Do not waste time on weighing fish that will be released.
It is recommended. Put measuring marks on your rod to allow you to easily and quickly measure the size of a fish while it is still in the water.
It is recommended. Bring pliers, hook remover and scissors.
It is recommended. Cut the line close to the hook if gentle unhooking is not possible.
It is recommended. Use tackle that is strong enough to handle large fish and avoid long fighting times.
It is recommended. Give the fish the benefit of the doubt if you are unsure of its length when the catch limit for large salmon is reached.
It is recommended to send a photo in the report of a fish you have taken home.
It is not recommended to take the time to photograph a fish that you will release again.
It is recommended. Do not fill in weight when you report a released fish.
It is recommended not to take more than 2 – 3 sea trout per year.
It is recommended that no more than 2 salmon be caught and released per Day.
